Hydraulic Surgeon's Stool
Although the Reliance model 540 is the most economical in the 500 Series, it incorporates all the standard features that make it world famous for comfort and efficiency. The 15" diameter seat is constructed of high-density, 2" polyfoam. A cushioned backrest may be added later.
All Series 500 stools have five legs to distribute weight evenly and ensure stability. Also, the circumference of the base exceeds that of the seat to maintain stability even in the elevated sit-stand position. Mobility is provided by rugged two-and-a-half inch casters molded from hard rubber.
The model 540 features hands-free height adjustment! A convenient foot pedal easily raises or lowers the stool height. Total vertical travel is 7½ inches. Seats on all 500 series stools swivel 360° independent of the base, so height isn't affected. Swivel of stool seat may be locked by lifting foot pedal.

Hydraulic Surgeon's Stool with

The Reliance Model 558 Stool was created to provide optimal stability, flexibility and comfort for physicians during the most delicate surgical procedures. A foot-activated hydraulic foot pedal enables physicians to position themselves without breaking the sterile field.
This stool includes specially designed floor locks to prevent chair movement during surgical procedures. In addition, five legs distribute weight evenly and ensure stability. The circumference of the base also exceeds that of the seat to further maintain stability, even in the elevated sit-stand position. Mobility is provided by rugged two-and-a-half inch casters molded from hard rubber.
The Model 558 was designed to provide maximum comfort and support for the practitioner's back, arms and wrists. Upholstered armrests support the practitioner's forearms. For comfort, they adjust vertically and lock in place. For convenience, the angle of the arms can be adjusted and locked into place, then rotated freely to the rear upon completion of the procedure. The ergonomic upholstered backrest adjusts vertically, tilts forward and locks in place.
The model 558 offers hands free height adjustment. Total vertical travel is 7½ inches. The seat on the Model 558 swivels 360° independent of the base so that height isn't affected. Swivel of stool seat may be locked by lifting foot pedal.

What's the difference between hydraulic and pneumatic foot-activated stools?
Please Note: Yes, these foot-activated pneumatic stools shown below are less expensive but they don't work the same as the foot-activated hydraulic stools shown above. Here's the difference:
Hydraulic stool seats elevate when you pump the lever with your foot. The seat then lowers when you press all the way down on the foot-activated lever. You can remain seated while raising and lowering the seat.
Foot-activated pneumatic stool seats will raise and lower when you press down on the ring with your foot. But you must lift your buttocks off the seat while depressing the footring if you want the seat to go up. It's not as convenient. Which one is better? It's up to the user and the application. That's why we offer both.
Note: Beware of misleading advertising. Some companies classify their stools as hydraulic when they are really foot-activated pneumatic stools. There is a difference!
